Practical info before you book
Quick answers to the things guests usually ask.
- Bring your own bath and beach towels. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering, so stock up on groceries before you arrive. There is a small shop within walking distance and larger supermarkets in Gansbaai and Hermanus if you prefer to stop on the way. Pack a sun hat, sunscreen, and a fleece or light jacket for cool evenings. If you plan to fish, bring your own rod and tackle, and sort your DFFE recreational fishing permit before arrival.
- Galjoen Gat is situated inside Pearly Beach Resort, which has a controlled-access entry. This makes it a practical choice for families travelling with children and for guests who prefer a quieter, more contained environment. As with any holiday, use normal common sense: lock the cottage when you go out, keep valuables out of sight in your vehicle, and save Heidi and Mia as contacts on your phone before arrival.
- Pearly Beach is around 2 hours and 30 minutes from Cape Town in normal conditions. The most straightforward route follows the N2 east toward Bot River, then the R43 through Hermanus and Stanford before turning toward Gansbaai and Pearly Beach. Traffic leaving Cape Town on a Friday afternoon can add 30 to 45 minutes; plan to leave before 13:00 if you can. The drive passes some of the best coastal scenery on the Overberg coast, so it doubles as part of the weekend break.
