Inside Pearly Beach Resort
Galjoen Gat is at 6 Galjoen St, Pearly Beach, 7220. The cottage sits inside Pearly Beach Resort, a residential resort on the Western Cape coastline. Boom gate plus 24-hour security at the entrance to Pearly Beach Resort, which means children can play in the cottage garden and guests can leave the car parked overnight without worry.
The resort is residential rather than hotel-style. Galjoen Gat is one private self-catering cottage; bookings happen through the LekkeSlaap listing. The website explains the stay and answers questions before you book.
Drive from Cape Town
Pearly Beach is around 2 hours and 30 minutes from central Cape Town in normal traffic conditions. The route runs along the N2 east through Sir Lowry’s Pass, past Grabouw and Caledon, then turns onto the R43 at the Bot River turn-off. The R43 takes you through Hermanus and Stanford before reaching Gansbaai. Pearly Beach is a short drive past Gansbaai.
The drive is paved throughout. There are several places to stop along the way for coffee or a quick meal, particularly in Hermanus and Stanford. Late departures from Cape Town can stretch the drive due to afternoon traffic on the N2; aim to leave before 14h00 on Fridays for the smoothest run.
Drive times depend on traffic and weather, so treat the estimate above as a planning guide rather than a guarantee.
Walking distances from the cottage
- To the beach: approximately 200 metres from the cottage door. Two to three minutes on a flat path. Suitable for guests with young children or anyone carrying beach gear.
- To Pearly Beach Market (on the resort): under 5 minutes on foot. Useful for daily-use items, bread, milk, basic braai supplies. For a larger weekly shop, Pearly Beach Mini Supermarket in town has longer trading hours, and the supermarkets in Gansbaai are a short drive.
- Inside the resort: the resort has internal walking paths for evening strolls. A children’s play area sits directly behind the cottage, an easy hop for younger guests.
What is around the cottage
Pearly Beach is a quiet residential coastal village rather than a busy tourist hub. The character is calmer than Hermanus or Plettenberg Bay: fewer restaurants, more space on the beach, and a slower pace overall. Walker Bay is to the west; the Gansbaai harbour and Marine Big-Five experiences are a short drive away.
Galjoen Gat is set up for guests who want to be at the coast rather than at the centre of activities. The wood or charcoal indoor braai, the family-friendly resort layout, and the short walk to the beach are the load-bearing reasons most guests choose to stay here. Activity guides for fishing, beach walks, family holidays, weekend breaks, and whale-season viewing are linked on the home page and the Things to Do page.
