    Protected natural tidal pool on the rocky reef section of the Pearly Beach coastline. Safe paddling for young children at low tide. The wall is also a relaxed fishing spot for older children.

    A flat 2 to 3 minute walk from the cottage to the main beach via the resort beach-access path. Sandy beach for swimming in calm conditions; rocky sections to either side for rock-pool exploration.

    Public rocky reef sections of the Pearly Beach coastline that local surf-anglers fish for galjoen on an incoming tide. A DFFE recreational fishing permit is required; check current bag and size limits before fishing.

    The 1849 lighthouse marking the southernmost point of Africa. About 1 hour 15 minutes by road via Bredasdorp. Visitor centre at the lighthouse base; entry fee applies.

  • Danger Point lighthouse

    Gansbaai, 22 km from the cottage

    Danger Point lighthouse marks the rocks where HMS Birkenhead foundered in 1852. About 22 km from Pearly Beach via Gansbaai, the last stretch on gravel. Walk-up access; small donation requested at the keeper hut.
