Introduction
Pearly Beach is around 2 hours and 30 minutes from Cape Town in normal conditions, which puts it in the practical range for a Friday-to-Sunday break without feeling like a commitment. The road is straightforward: N2 out of Cape Town, R43 through Hermanus and Stanford, and then south to Pearly Beach.
Galjoen Gat is a 2-bedroom self-catering cottage inside Pearly Beach Resort. It sleeps up to 5 guests, has an indoor braai, Wi-Fi, and linen is included. The cottage suits couples, small families, or a group of friends who want a base rather than a hotel stay.
Practical guide
The drive route: take the N2 from Cape Town towards Somerset West, continue through Grabouw and the Houwhoek Pass, and turn onto the R43 at Botrivier. The R43 takes you through Hermanus and Stanford before you head south on the R326 to Pearly Beach. The road is tarmac all the way.
A suggested stop in Stanford: the village is roughly at the halfway point. Stanford has a handful of coffee shops and a deli near the main road. It is a practical rest stop rather than a destination, but worth the pause if you leave Cape Town at noon.
The drive takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes in normal conditions. Allow an extra 30 minutes for traffic leaving Cape Town on a Friday afternoon. There is no toll on the R43. Fuel up in Hermanus or Gansbaai before the final leg to Pearly Beach.
Cell signal is generally good on the N2 and R43. It can drop on the back roads into Pearly Beach itself. Download offline maps before you leave if you are not certain of the route.
A suggested 2-night itinerary
This is a suggestion, not a prescription. Adapt to your party and how much structure you want from a weekend.
Friday afternoon
Arrival and settle in
Arrive at Galjoen Gat in the late afternoon. Unpack, get the braai going, and spend the evening in. Pick up supplies in Hermanus or Gansbaai on the way through if you have not packed a cooler bag from Cape Town.
Saturday
Morning beach walk, afternoon rest, evening braai
Walk to the beach in the morning. Pearly Beach is known for its quiet coastline; early morning is the best time before any day visitors arrive. Spend the afternoon at the cottage, read, nap, or explore the rock pools at low tide. Saturday evening is the braai evening.
Sunday
Slow start and early afternoon return
A slower Sunday morning before checkout. Pack up at a reasonable hour and allow yourself to stop in Stanford or Hermanus on the way back. Aim to be back in Cape Town by late afternoon to avoid the Sunday evening N2 traffic.
